Blue skies

February 8th, 2010

Last day in HK and I FINALLY got to see some blue skies. Unfortunately, it didn’t last long.

Monday
And the sun came out for a while, too!

Monday
Blue skies WERE there…but the clouds quickly covered it as I got out of bed and reached for the camera.

Old friends

February 7th, 2010

After dumping all the shopping back at Poreiz’s place, I headed out again to meet HongHui and ChoiFong for dinner. HongHui had class till 5pm (wooohoo! Back to school!), so we were planning to meet at 530pm at Admiralty station. I think I was late…because he offered to meet me at Central instead and we went to TaiKoo station. I had no idea where I was going, I was just following the leader.
:D

He said I could spot him easily because he had a backpack and (at that time I didn’t understand what he meant) a nasal inhaler (because he was unwell) – it took me a while, especially when I can’t see clearly (neither can he because he’s unwell)…and even when I THOUGHT I saw him, I had to walk (almost) right into his face before I could go, “HELLO!”

Sen-Ryo
Hong said it is their favourite restaurant and the mall was ChoiFong’s favourite haunt when they were staying in the old apartment.
:hee:

Sen-Ryo
He was surprised there was a long queue even though we arrived earlier than normal dinner time.

Serving #150. What was our ticket? #162?

點心

February 7th, 2010

After the long, tiring (for me) hike yesterday, Hazel gave me an option of going for the late morning service. I told her I’ll see if I could wake up in time…and thanks to my jetlag, I did! Woke up in time to attend the first service with Hazel (Paul was playing drums). We thought we were late but we were just in time. I couldn’t really walk any faster (aftermath of hike!) but had to tahan to keep up with Hazel.
:P

Yes, I woke up to aches and pains.

Dim sum
Over doing the “pretending to not know her photo is being taken”.

Dim sum
I was perspiring in service, too.
:pfft:

We were reminded in the service that our PRIMARY duty before God is to LOVE Him.

Dim sum
“Let’s go back this way.”
Hazel had a meeting after service and Paul continued playing drums for the next service – I went exploring a little but stopped short when it started raining. I went back to Délifrance to have something to eat (I didn’t think I could last till 點心) and to have a place to kill a bit of time.

Dim sum
Are the buildings really high up or the clouds down low?

Dim sum
Watching life in HK – this was at about 1230pm but it was raining, so the sky looked gloomy.

Gold Medal Hot Pot

February 5th, 2010

Hazel counted me in for this dinner before I even got to HK. I don’t usually go for steamboat/hotpot but ever since Surt introduced me to Nagomi, I guess I am okay with it now. I don’t go, “YAY! HOTPOT!” but I won’t say “YUCK!” either. It’s also possible that there is a wider variety of food to cook in the steamboat/hotpot or just plain change of taste buds.
:hee:

Hot Pot
Following the leader!
Leader say hor, in order to get the private room, our bill must be a minimum HKD3000. When I did the calculation and converted it to RM hor, I almost pengsan-ed wor.
:P

I’ve been told not to convert prices of food.
Actually, the only sakit hati thing I have about buying/paying things in HK is the Skinfood BB cream – I paid HKD290 and it’s only RM79 in Malaysia.
:grr:

Hot Pot
Your personal straining ladle, personal and public/uncooked food chopsticks.
HK people are particular personal food hygiene. No putting chopsticks in your mouth and using the same one to pick up food that is for sharing! We are Malaysian, so bantai only lah.

Hot Pot
I thought we were late but we were the first to arrive.

I’ve found a place for brunch!

January 3rd, 2010

After an abrupt ending from church service (honestly, it has never happened this way before), we went grocery shopping at Asian Grocery.
:hee:

Lugged (okay, it wasn’t THAT much stuff or heavy) the bags back to my place and we went off to lunch. I’ve not been anywhere for lunch after church apart from people’s house or takeaway places. Furthermore, not a lot of eateries are open on Sunday afternoon. The only cafe (we wanted something “light”) that I could think of was the one at New World (well, there’s another one near the cinema but Mondo looked nicer :P )

Mondo
The menu was on the far side of the wall and I couldn’t see what was on it – so I thought I’d order one of the savoury baked goods on display. As we inched nearer to the cash register (there was a long line but thankfully, seats were aplenty, too), we saw the printed copy of the menu on little stands above the food case(?). They have all-day breakfast on the list (I LOVE all-day breakfast!) and needless to say, I abandoned the plan to order the baked goods.
:P

Mondo
Happily waiting for our food. Grant being like all males (most males?), had newspaper right in front of him.

Mondo
He didn’t order from the menu but got an apricot slice/tart and a savoury scone.

Mondo
I was actually mumbling to LiMay, “I don’t like him laughing at me while I’m posing!”
They were both sitting opposite of me, and I could see from the corner of my eyes that was was grinning and laughing.

Mondo
The mochaccino was good! I daresay that it may be better than the one we get at Westerman’s.
:P

Mondo
My brunch – french toast, bacon, banana and maple syrup.

Mondo
LiMay had the pancake version.

Mondo
“Weird to have bacon together with our sweet stuff!”
It turned out to be quite a good combination (a balanced one of sweet and savoury) – we have sweet+savoury from PHOP, too, but you won’t see bacon on their menu.
:P

Oak Avenue Scenic drive
Oak Avenue.
It WAS originally planted in 1860s as a driveway to one of Hastings homesteads, LiMay – that’s why it looks like those old movie’s driveway like we thought.
:D

After the scenic *cough* drive, we drove to Havelock North to continue our “sight seeing”.
