I’m sorry
June 17th, 2005
I’m sorry for not being able to play along with you. With what you’ve said. With what he has said. It’s not like those people are my friends and that I’m helping to pull a prank on them. I’m already working, these things don’t work.
Sometimes you’ve got to know when to draw the line. I know people tell white lies to avoid anger/hurting people’s feelings. Lies to brag/bring yourself up a notch are…silly.
Another reason is I feel that you have the same opinion as this one customer who came into the pharmacy last time. He said that the only profession to command respect is a doctor.
Heh-lo?
So are you saying those who are not doctors deserve no respect? Or could not command any respect?
You’re telling me that those who sweep the street, clean the toilets, clear your garbage, etc. deserves no respect? That we don’t NEED to respect them?
I respect them because it’s a not a job anyone would DIE for.
He said every household should have a family member being a doctor so that the family’s health is in check. I tell you, even if you have 10 doctors in the family, the stubborn old wo/man will still NOT listen to you.
He said it’s a “pity” that he sees some pharmacy graduates doing sales for pharmaceutical companies – “They are like beggars! Begging the doctors to buy their products. It’s so pitiful. If those who are average in their studies, ok lah. They can go do sales but why these people with degrees go do sales?”
Heh-lo?
You think just because you’ve got a degree you’d excel in sales? Not everyone can do sales. Not everyone can have that kind of patience when dealing with their customers (be it doctors, pharmacists, managers, supervisors, etc.) and it doesn’t mean that if you’ve got a degree, a job in sales is WAY below you.
Perhaps with the relevant degree (like having a pharmacy degree and doing sales for a drug company) you’d have a more specific title – Product Specialist – but that’s about it. Everyone’s equal.
Being a sales person is NOT a beggar!!!
GARGH!

*slaps the fella in mind*
So back to my original story. I feel like you’re that guy, thinking that being a doctor is better. What’s wrong with being a pharmacist? Is it that “shameful”? That I cannot say I’m a pharmacist? That I must play along and say I’m doing medicine? What’s wrong?!
BAH!
I feel that I didn’t do wrong in correcting them. Even some of my parents’ friends think I went through medicine school. Maybe it’s really difficult to pronounce “pharmacist” and easier to say “doctor”.
I don’t understand what’s the problem with being a pharmacist. What’s the big fuss in being a doctor?
I don’t condemn doctors. Not everyone is cut out to be a doctor. Even if you’ve always had good grades, doesn’t mean you’d make a good doctor. I can’t be a doctor. Mine is more of grades and passion.
*hehe*
Even pharmacy was a struggle for me – for those who are close to me understand what I mean.
*sigh*
I’m sorry if by not playing along I messed up everything for you. There are certain things which you can’t lie about – white or not. I feel that I couldn’t take on this “role” of a doctor because basically, I’m not one. Although I do agree that being a doctor is a respected profession, it’s not THE only one.
